I'm just a teenage girl sitting around talking about herself (probably to myself). I've always believed in two things: communication and talking to myself (well... other things too but these seem the most relevant except...) okay scratch that! Three things: communication, talking to myself, and talking about myself.
Ps. The name comes from a debate phrase where if you don't argue against it you automatically agree with it, but we apply it to life. The title comes from my application to life.
P.P.S. There will be rants on this page... sorry!
Right now the Supreme Court is hearing cases regarding gay rights, and HRC (Human Rights Campaign) put out an image of a red equal sign and requested that people make it their profile picture to show support for gay rights. This is something that I did without hesitation, as did many of my friends.
There were a number of variations made on this equal sign, some in support of equal rights and some not in support of equal rights, but there was one variation that made me highly upset: the cross. This was posted along with a message that stated, “If you are in favor of promoting God’s love for us more than any issue in this world right now, feel free to share or make this your profile picture.” While I have no problem with promoting God’s love for us, this picture is blatantly disrespectful on a couple of different levels.
The first is that if people actually had this goal- the goal of promoting God’s love- then they would support the issue of gay rights instead of mocking them. The Christian Church is one of the biggest barriers for gay rights due to their anti-gay agendas. However, many Christians claim that they believe that God loves everyone, and these people with this profile picture should support that too. This picture is a contradiction within itself.
The second problem that I have with this picture is its support of ignorance and disrespect. People have FOUGHT for these rights. They have devoted their entire LIVES to these issues that are being put by the wayside for God. Many of the people who are fighting don’t even believe in God or the Christian Religion but are in a sense being asked to ignore their issues and what they are fighting for because they need to look to God. People shouldn’t, in any religion, be asked to support a higher being instead of fighting for what is right in the world itself. That is just plain disrespectful.
So… About me… That’s tough…
I’m a teenage girl. My name’s Ellie. I’m liberal. I debate… and debate is my life. I have opinions on most things but hate making decisions. I’m not courageous. I worry about everything. I have an identical twin sister… she decided to make a blog so I thought it would be good for me too. I am a cat person (I have two cats. One is about three and her name is Peanut. The other I just got, she is 7 weeks old and named Luna). I am obsessed with Harry Potter. I like Twilight too. I read fanfiction. I write fanfiction. My favorite color is green. My favorite food changes a lot so I can’t really decide. I like country music. I love Taylor Swift. I’m socially awkward. I’m a NERD. I’m a nerdfighter (eff yeah nerdfighters!). I love watching YouTube videos but wouldn’t like making them. I live and breathe on planet earth.
